Many people argue that Nigerian meals are largely plant-based, considering our leafy soups and overindulgence in carbohydrates. But we also eat a lot of meat and animal products. Being vegan in Nigeria can be overwhelming because even if you specifically ask that meat not be added to your order, chances are crayfish was used in the egusi soup you ordered.
We’re pumped to share a list of 7 of the best restaurants serving vegan food in Lagos.
First, dine-in restaurants that serve only vegan food
Veggie Victory
Veggie Victory is the first vegetarian and vegan-only Nigerian restaurant in Lagos. Veggie Victory may not be your typical Lagos restaurant with high-end decor and ambient music, but its menu is a delight to vegans struggling to find menus that cater to them in Lagos. Think things like tofu, yam chips and vegan shawarma with extra flavour. They also offer plant-based variations of traditional Nigerian meals, so imagine nkwobi but without the cow. As a non-vegan, I asked how? That’s where the magic that is vegan food comes in. For a meaty feel, Veggie Victory uses plant-based seitan in their meals which is a bestseller in their restaurant. It’s a must-try spot if you’re vegan or vegan-curious in Lagos.
